 SURVEY HIGHLIGHTS:

There is a shortage of 400 Independent Living apartment suites for Seniors 60 plus.

Stats Canada survey of Senior population is 12,025 in the Prince George and  District area.

A private survey indicates that 50% of the people that moved away from Prince George for retirement; returned within 5 years.  

Main reason sited for return was family and friends live here.

Independent Living - Elders entering into this stage of life are mobile. They choose to cook their own meals and are independent. They want to be socially involved with people of their own age group, they seek security through living together, they do not want the up-keep of a home, or yard . They commonly travel at leisure and want their belonging and residence to be secure when they do so. Asher Place as a  "gated community" fills all these requirements. There is also a level of independent living facility that makes meals compulsory as part of their higher rent structure. The Prince George Chateau is a example of this type of facility in Prince George. Alward Place is another independent living facility that includes some meals in their rent structure.

Assisted Living - Elders entering this stage of life, require assistance as the name suggests. They need their meals cooked, bedding changed, and some nursing care. Laurier Place is an example of this type of facility in the City of Prince George.

Intermediate Care And Extended Care - These facilities are full nursing facilities and look after all the varied needs of the individuals in their care. Parkside and Gateway provide this type of care in the City of Prince George
